The Ratio of Assisted Living & Nursing Units to Independent Units Would Be Too Low
Isakson Living’s planned ratio of assisted/nursing care units to independent living units in East Cobb seems quite low. The first Isakson Living East Cobb proposal had around 15% of assisted living and nursing care units while the second proposal has only 11% of nursing/assisted living units. That means Isakson Living might have to expand this CCRC development even more, or residents might not get the care and services they need.
Many CCRCs around the country have a much higher ratio of independent living to assisted living/nursing care: between 37-40% nursing/assisted living units. Even more recently it was noted that in many CCRCs an average of 23% was dedicated to nursing care alone; therefore, only 11% for assisted living & nursing care combined seems problematic. In another example, the only CCRC in Cobb County, Presbyterian Village, has around 60% assisted living & nursing care with 40% dedicated to independent living. It is also significant that the Presbyterian Village CCRC is located less than a mile from Cobb Hospital. It should be noted that Isakson Living Park Springs in Stone Mountain has 15.8% of assisted living & nursing care units. We support changes in the CCRC code that make it better for everyone, especially for residents and seniors. For example, CCRCs should be required to be located near hospitals for safety reasons.
